Moving Tips - First decide if you’re going to move yourself or if you’re going to
hire a mover. If you have back problems it is probably a good idea not to lift
anything. To be safe, book your rental truck at least a month ahead of time.
Packing This is a great time to get rid of items you don't need anymore. A yard
sale is one way to dispose of items you don't need anymore and make some extra
cash. If you are packing yourself, start packing ahead of time so you don't feel
overwhelmed, pack a few boxes every day. Begin packing articles not often used
such as items in garages, basements, closets and storage areas. Label each box
appropriately with the general contents and destination of the room. Fragile
items such as glass should be clearly marked fragile. Ensure the
bottoms of the boxes are well taped to hold the contents, pack light items in
large boxes and heavy items in small boxes. Dishes and pictures should be placed
vertically in a box with plenty of paper or cloth for cushioning. Besides using
conventional paper or bubble wrap you can use your towels, table cloths, dish
cloths etc.

Choosing a mover -
If you've decided to hire movers you can either let movers do the packing for you or save some money by doing all or some of the packing yourself.
Get several onsite price quotes before choosing a mover. Make sure to mention all items to be moved for an accurate assessment.
Always demand a written contract and be sure to read the fine print before you sign. Include in the contract the delivery time, delivery address, phone numbers
and insurance coverage for a total cost figure. Find out if the disassembly and/or reassembly of furniture is included in the price. Also be sure to ask if there are extra charges for a long walk from the truck to the house, stairs or heavy items such as a piano and if the moving company moves things such as barbecues or lawn mowers. Check ahead of time if there are problems such as parking permits required, difficult access for large trucks or large furniture that may not fit through narrow entrances
And remember, your important papers and valuables such as cash, keys, family
photos, mortgage papers, passports and certificates can't be replaced. Therefore
it is always best to take your personal and important items with you.
